Subject:
Front Seat Back Squeaks (Lubricate Seat Back Frame Z-Wire)
Models:
2000-2002 Buick LeSabre
2000-2002 Oldsmobile Aurora
2000-2002 Pontiac Bonneville
Condition
Some customers may comment on a squeak noise from the front seat back.
Cause
This condition may be caused by metal to metal contact of the "Z-Wire" of the self-aligning headrest and the U-bracket of the seat back frame.
Correction
Lubricate the "Wire" pivot point with GM Special Lubricant, P/N 12345879 (in Canada P/N 10953511). Use the following procedure to access the pivot
point and apply the lubricant:
1.
Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in the SIR sub-section of Restraints in the Service Manual.
2.
Move the seat to the full forward and full upright position. Move the rear of the lower cushion to the full down position.
3.
Remove the two screws at the lower corners of the seat back panel. Pull up the fabric on either side of the seat back panel to gain access to the
screws. Refer to the illustration above for the location. Please note that not all vehicles will have these screws.
