Aurora V8-4.0L VIN C (1996)
The Driver Information Center (DIC) displays the LOW BRAKE FLUID waining message if the brake fluid level switch closes to ground, signaling that
brake fluid has decreased below its specified threshold.
Low Washer Fluid Warning
The instrument cluster receives washer fluid level status from the washer fluid level switch and transmits the information to the Driver Information
Center (DIC) via serial data line. The washer fluid level switch is grounded when the washer fluid falls below a specified level.
Oil Level Warning
The Driver Information Center (DIC) displays the CHECK OIL LEVEL message to alert the driver of a low oil level condition. The low oil sensing
circuit consists of low oil level sensor. This system is active only at initial engine starting and not while the engine is running. The oil level is measured if
the engine has been off long enough for top engine oil to return to the oil pan.
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is responsible for retaining memory for the oil level function. If the ignition on input as been at 0 volts for at
least 8 minutes, the PCM activates the low oil level sensor. If the sensor returns a signal indicating a low oil condition, the DIC displays the CHECK
OIL LEVEL message 15 to 25 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to RUN. If the ignition switch is turned off for less than 20 seconds, the PCM
remembers and sends the previous oil level status to the DIC and ignores the present oil status. If the ignition switch has been OFF for more then 20
seconds, but less than 8 minutes, the PCM ignores the low oil sensor.
Oil Life Information
The Driver Information Center (DIC) receives oil life information over the serial data line from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) via the
instrument cluster. If the ENG/5 button is toggled, the DIC displays remaining oil life.
Oil Pressure Information
The Driver Information Center (DIC) receives the oil pressure information from the instrument cluster via serial data line. The oil pressure may be
displayed by toggling the ENG/5 button. If the pressure is low, the LOW OIL PRESSURE message appears on the DIC.
Park Brake Set Warning
If the park brake is applied and the gear selector lever is not in PARK or NEUTRAL, the park brake input terminal is grounded. The Driver Information
Center (DIC) displays the PARK BRAKE SET message and a fast chime briefly sounds.
PASS-Key(R) II Information
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) provides PASS-Key II(R) information over the serial data line to the instrument cluster. The cluster transmits
the information to the Driver Information Center (DIC) via serial data line.
Transmission Fluid Life Information
The Driver Information Center (DIC) receives transmission fluid life information over the serial data line from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
via the instrument cluster. If the ENG/5 button is toggled, the DIC displays remaining transmission fluid life.
Trip Computer Information
The Driver Information Center (DIC) receives trip computer information, such as instantaneous fuel usage, over the serial data line from the instrument
cluster. A discrete input sends fuel level information to the cluster for range calculations. This raw data is processed by the cluster using its internal time
keeping functions to determine, for example, average fuel economy.
