CONDITION
General Motors has determined that certain 1992 through 1994 Oldsmobile Bravada vehicles may experience a condition, if operated below -30°C (-22°
F), in which the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system hoses freeze up. This condition can cause engine oil leaks through the oil level indicator
tube and/or the rear main seal. Engine failure may result if the vehicle is driven with this condition.
To prevent this condition from occurring, retailers are to replace the PCV valve on all affected vehicles with a higher flow calibrated valve.
VEHICLES INVOLVED
Involved are certain 1992 through 1994 Bravada models equipped with the 4.3L engine, (VIN code "W"), registered in the state of Alaska, built within
the VIN breakpoints as shown.
Involved vehicles have been identified by VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) computer listings. Computer listings contain the complete VIN, owner
name and address data, and are furnished to involved retailers with the campaign bulletin. Owner names and address data furnished will enable retailers
to follow-up with owners involved in the campaign.
These listings may contain owners names and addresses obtained from state motor vehicle registration records. The use of such motor vehicle
registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up
necessary to complete this campaign. Any retailer not receiving a computer listing with the campaign bulletin has no involved vehicles currently
assigned.
Should a question arise concerning the campaign involvement of a specific vehicle(s) within the breakpoints listed above, retailers should access the
Vehicle Information Service System (V.I.S.S.) for verification.
All vehicles listed on the retailer printout will require correction. Other suspect vehicles should be checked for campaign involvement by utilizing the
Vehicle Information Service System (V.I.S.S.) for verification.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
Owners will be notified of this recall on their vehicles by Oldsmobile Division.
RETAILER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY
Retailers are to perform this campaign on all involved vehicles at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership from this
time forward.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used vehicle inventory, or if it is in your retail facility for service, you are to
ensure the campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
Retailers are to contact owners of vehicles recently sold from your new or used vehicle inventory and arrange for the campaign correction to be
performed.
Retailers are to replace the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve on the vehicles involved, as directed in this Emission Campaign Bulletin
94-E-01. If there is evidence of intentional disablement of the emission system, the retailer is to notify the vehicle owner of this condition and ask if
he/she wants the system restored. Restoration cost is the responsibility of the owner.
