Campaign - Starter Motor Pinion Stop Fails

CONDITION
General Motors has determined that certain 1994 Achieva, Cutlass Ciera, Cutlass Supreme, Eighty Eight, Ninety Eight, Silhouette, and Bravada models
listed below, may have improperly heat treated pinion stop collars. This condition may result in part failure causing slow engine crank speeds or an
engine no start condition.
To prevent this failure from occurring, retailers are to inspect and repair certain starter motors from the vehicles identified below. Starter motors with
date codes of N093, N103, N113, N123, N133. N153, and N163 are to be repaired by replacing the pinion stop collar and retaining ring. No repairs are
necessary on motors that fall outside of these date codes.
VEHICLES INVOLVED
Involved are certain 1994 Oldsmobile vehicles built within the VIN breakpoints as shown.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
Owners will be notified of this recall on their vehicles by Oldsmobile Division.
RETAILER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY
Retailers are to service all vehicles involved in this campaign, at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used car inventory, or if it is in your retail facility for service, you are to ensure the
campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
Retailers are to contact owners of vehicles recently sold from your new or used vehicle inventory and arrange for the campaign correction to be
performed. Retailers with vehicles to correct will also receive one printout of Vehicle Identification Numbers, owner names and addresses in VIN
sequence (in California, VIN's only, no names or addresses). This data will enable you to follow-up with involved owners.
We urge you to limit the use of these lists to the follow-up needed for this campaign. Names and addresses from State Vehicle Registration files may be
included; it is illegal in many states to use such data outside of campaigns. Your cooperation in completing this campaign as soon as possible will be
greatly appreciated.
