Timing Cover: Service and Repair
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Air conditioning.
^ A.I.R. pump.
^ A/C compressor and bracket.
2. Water pump.
3. Raise vehicle.
4. Harmonic Balancer.
5. Oil pan to cover bolts.
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Timing Cover.
CLEAN
Sealing surfaces on the Timing Cover and cylinder block sealing surfaces with degreaser.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. New gasket making sure not to damage sealing surfaces
2. Apply a continuous 3mm (1/8") bead of GM 1052917 RTV sealer or equivalent to oil pan sealing surface of Timing Cover.
3. Place Timing Cover on the engine, install stud bolt and bolts.
4. Water pump. Retaining bolts and nut.
Tighten

M6X1.0 to 8-12 Nm (6-9) lb.ft.
^
M8X1.25 to 18-24 Nm (13-18 ft. lb.)
^
M10V1.5 to 27-41 Nm (20-30 ft. lb.)
6. Raise vehicle.
7. Oil pan to cover screws.
8. Harmonic Balancer.
Tighten
