NUMBER:

86-T-77

CORP.REF.NO.: 136001

DATE:

May 1991

SECTION:

SUBJECT

EXCESS PAINT IN FLYWHEEL MOUNTING HOLES
2.5L GOODWRENCH ENGINE, P/N 10101781 CLEAN MOUNTING HOLES

MODELS/YEARS

1984-86 CUTLASS CIERA

Condition:

Incorrect clamp load on flywheel bolts.

Cause:

Paint accumulation in the crankshaft flywheel mounting holes. This will result in an inadequate (false) torque condition. The flywheel may
appear secure, however, it can begin to loosen under normal engine operating conditions and the mounting holes in the flywheel may elongate.

Correction:

The flywheel mounting hole threads should be cleaned out by retapping with a M-10X1.5-6H standard tap.

NOTE:

THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO GOODWRENCH PARTIAL ENGINES ONLY (P/N 10101781)
