Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair
Installation
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Cover and new gaskets (no sealer needed).
2. Place nuts on studs to retain cover then bolts and tighten to 12 Nm (106 lbs. in.).
3. Raise the vehicle.
4. Remaining cover fasteners and tighten to 12 Nm (106 lbs. in.).
Engine Front Cover
5. Lubricate front oil seal and sealing surface of crankshaft balancer with Chassis Grease GM P/N 1051344 or equivalent.
6. Crankshaft Pulley. Refer to Pulley, Crankshaft.
7. Right front wheel and tire assembly.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Engine mount and support bracket.
10. Generator.
11. Remove J 28467-A or equivalent engine support.
12. Serpentine drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt.
CAUTION: To avoid personal injury when rotating the serpentine belt tensioner, use a tight fitting 13 mm wrench that is at least 61 cm
(24") long. This operation can be done using J 37059 or equivalent.
13. Cover vent hose.
14. Coolant surge tank.
15. Add coolant.
16. Start engine and inspect for oil leaks.
