Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove 2/3 of brake fluid from master cylinder assembly.
2. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle.
3. Mark the relationship of the wheel to the hub and bearing assembly in order to ensure proper wheel balance upon reassembly.
4. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
5. Reinstall two wheel nuts in order to retain rotor to the hub and bearing assembly.
6. Push the piston into the caliper bore in order to provide clearance between the linings and rotor.
7. Install a large C-clamp over the top of the caliper housing and against the back of the outboard pad.
8. Slowly tighten C-clamp until the piston is pushed into the caliper bore enough to slide the caliper assembly off the rotor.
9. Use large adjustable pliers in order to compress the piston (1) when the caliper has been removed from the rotor and is supported. Use this as an
alternate method in order to compress the caliper piston.
