Crankshaft Balancer: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE 

NOTICE:  The inertial weight section of the balancer is assembled to the hub with a rubber type material. The correct removal procedure must be
followed or movement of the inertial weight section of the hub will destroy the tuning of the balancer.

Tools Required 
-

J 24420-B Crankshaft Pulley/Hub Puller/Gear Puller 

CAUTION:  Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Accessory Drive Belt Replacement.
3. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
5. Remove the right splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement in Bumpers.
6. Remove the transmission converter cover.
7. Remove the balancer retaining bolt. Have an assistant keep the flywheel from turning.
8. Install the J 24420-B on the balancer.
9. Turn the puller screw.

10. Remove the balancer.

1. Coat the front cover seal contact area with engine oil.
