Oil Filter and Seal Replacement (Oil Filter and Seal)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE 

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Drain the oil. Refer to Oil Filter and Seal Replacement (Changing Oil and Filter).
3. Remove the oil pan attaching bolts.
4. Remove the oil pan (2) and gasket (1).
5. Remove the oil filter assembly (4).
6. Remove the filter neck seal from the transmission case using a small screwdriver and be careful not to score the case. The filter seal is not reusable

and should be discarded.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 

1. Install the new oil filter (4) and the new oil filter seal (5). Tap gently and evenly on the seal in order to prevent damage to the case bore or seal.
2. Install the oil pan gasket (1). The oil pan gasket may be reused, unless the sealing ribs are damaged. If damaged, use a new gasket.
3. Install the oil pan (2) and the attaching bolts.

Tighten the pan bolts to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). 

NOTICE:  Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Fill the transmission to the proper level with DEXRON(R) III oil. 
6. Inspect the oil pan gasket for leaks.
7. Check fluid level.
