1.
Disconnect both battery ground cables.
2.
Remove air cleaner and air crossover and install air screens J-26996-2 or J-26996-10.
3.
Disconnect injection pump fuel solenoid, housing pressure cold advance wires and fuel return pipe.
4.
Clean injection pump cover, upper portion of pump and guide stud area. Position shop cloths to absorb fuel.
5.
Remove injection pump cover, then remove screws from cover. Use care to avoid any foreign matter from entering pump when cover is
removed. If any object or foreign matter enter pump, it must be removed before starting engine as injection pump damage or engine
damage may occur.
6.
Note position of metering valve spring before removal as its position must be duplicated exactly during reassembly, Fig. 25.
7.
Remove guide stud and washer, noting location of parts before removal.
8.
Refer to steps 21 thru 27 under ``Throttle Shaft Seal, Replace'' procedure for reassembly of ``Pump Cover Seal And/Or Guide Stud.''
Throttle Shaft Seal, Replace

V6 ENGINE
1.
Remove air crossover and install cover J-29657 or equivalent.
2.
Disconnect fuel return pipe, Fig. 15, then remove governor control cover screws and the cover.
3.
Remove fast idle solenoid and vacuum regulator valve.
4.
Disconnect throttle cable and TC detent cable.
5.
Disconnect throttle return spring.
6.
Install tool J-29601 or equivalent over throttle shaft with slots of tool engaging vacuum regulator valve lock pin. Place spring clip of tool over
throttle shaft advance cam and tighten wing nut. Without loosening wing nut, pull tool off of shaft.
