Audible Warning Device: Description and Operation
The Multi-function Alarm Module generates audible warnings for four conditions: Lights "ON" Warning, Ignition Key Warning, Fasten Belts Warning
and Turn Signal Warning. The Lights "ON" Warning and Turn Signal Warning are pulsed approximately once every one half second, sounding the
quickest. The Ignition Key Warning is pulsed once every second. The Fasten Belts Warning is a continuous tone.
Lights "ON" Warning
When the Light Switch is in "PARK" or "HEAD," voltage is applied to the Lights "ON" Input of the Multi-function Alarm Module. When the
Ignition Switch is turned out of the "RUN" position, voltage is removed from the Ignition Switch Input of the Multi-function Alarm Module. When
voltage is present at the Lights "ON" Input and no voltage applied to the Ignition Switch Input, the Multi-function Alarm Module will sound the
Lights "ON" Warning.
Ignition Key Warning
The Multi-function Alarm Module applies voltage at all times to the Ignition Key Warning Switch. When the Ignition Key is placed into the
Ignition Switch the Ignition Key Warning Switch is closed. When the LH front door is open, the Driver's Door Latch Switch closes the circuit to
ground. The Multi-function Alarm Module senses a voltage drop at the Ignition Key Input and will sound the Ignition Key Warning.
Fasten Belts Warning
The Multi-function Alarm Module applies voltage to the Safety Belt Switch at all times. The Multi-function Alarm Module senses a voltage drop
at the Safety Belt Input through the closed contacts of the Safety Belt Switch when the driver's safety belt is unlatched. When the driver's safety
belt is latched, the Safety Belt Switch is opened and the Multi-function Alarm Module senses voltage at the Safety Belt Input. When the Ignition
Switch is turned to "RUN," voltage is applied to the Multi-function Alarm Module Ignition Switch Input. When voltage is present at the Ignition
Switch Input and zero volt at the Safety Belt Input, the Multi-function Alarm Module will sound the Fasten Belts Warning for 4 to 8 seconds. If
voltage is present at the Ignition Switch Input and the Safety Belt Input, the Multi-function Alarm Module will disable the Fasten Belts Warning.
Turn Signal Chime
When a turn signal is operated, voltage is alternately applied and removed to Multi-function Alarm Module, terminal "M". The module begins to
monitor vehicle distance at, terminal "N". If the Turn Signal is still flashing after the vehicle has traveled 0.8 kilometers (0.5 miles), the Turn
Signal Warning chime will sound.
