Brake Warning System: Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
Indicator Remains on W/Ignition In Run and Park Brake Released
PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the Brake Fluid Level Switch with the Ignition Switch in RUN and the Park Brake released.

If the BRAKE indicator goes out, check the Brake Fluid Level. If OK, replace the Brake Fluid Level Switch.

If the BRAKE Indicator stays lit, go to step 2.
2. Disconnect the Park Brake Switch with the Ignition Switch in RUN

If the BRAKE Indicator goes out, replace the Park Brake Switch.
^
If the BRAKE Indicator stays lit, go to step 3.
3. Disconnect the Ignition Switch connector C206 with the Ignition Switch in RUN. Check for continuity between the Ignition Switch half of
connector C206 terminal B3 and ground.
^
If there is continuity, replace the Ignition Switch.
^
On models with Daytime Running Lights (DRL), if there is no continuity, go to step 4.
^
On models without DRL, if there is no continuity, check/repair TAN/WHT (33) wire for a short to ground. If OK, replace the Instrument
Cluster.
4. Disconnect DRL Module connector C2 with the Ignition Switch in RUN and observe the BRAKE Indicator.
^
If the BRAKE Indicator goes out, replace the DRL Module.
^
If the BRAKE Indicator is still lit, check the TAN/WHT (33) wire for a short to ground. If OK, replace the Instrument Cluster.
Indicator Off During Warning Condition or W/Ignition In Run
Disconnect the connector to the suspect switch and ground the connector with a fused jumper.
^
If the BRAKE Indicator does not light, check the indicator bulb and wiring between the Instrument Cluster and the suspect switch for an open.
If OK, replace the Instrument Cluster.
^
If the BRAKE Indicator lights, replace the suspect switch.
