SERVICING THE TRANSAXLE CASE COVER
MODELS/YEARS:
1993 CUTLASS CIERA WITH THE 3300
(VIN N) ENGINE AND 3T40 TRANSAXLE
The following procedures should be used when servicing the transaxle case cover in place of the one on page 7A-25 of the 1993 Cutlass Ciera/Cruiser
Service Manual.
Note:
The published time for this Labor Time Study has changed to a new lower time. This is due mostly to lowering of the left side of the frame to service the
side cover.
TRANSAXLE CASE COVER AND/OR GASKET
Tools Required:

J 28467-A Engine Support Fixture
^
J 36462 Engine Support Fixture Adapter Leg
Remove or Disconnect
1.
Air cleaner and duct assembly.
2.
Shift cable at lever and remove shift cable bracket from transaxle.
3.
T.V. cable from throttle body.
4.
T.V. cable from transaxle and disconnect at rod.
5.
Engine torque strut from engine.
6.
Install J 28467-A and J 36462.
7.
Raise vehicle and suitably support. Refer to SECTION 0A.
8.
Left front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to SECTION 3E.
9.
Left engine splash shield.
10.
Intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt.
Caution:
Failure to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to the steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This
damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.
11.
Intermediate shaft from stub shaft. Refer to SECTION 3F.
12.
Left lower ball joint. Refer to SECTION 3C.
13.
Transaxle front and rear mount nuts from frame.
14.
Air deflector screws.
15.
Support right and left sides of frame with jack stands.
16.
Left side frame-to-body bolts. Refer to SECTION 10-3.
17.
Lower the left side of engine/transaxle (approximately 4 to 6 inches) using J 28467-A.
18.
Valve body cover bolts, cover and gasket.
19.
Transaxle case electrical connector.
20.
Transaxle oil cooler lines from transaxle.
21.
Front and rear transaxle mounts.
22.
Throttle valve lever.
23.
Transaxle case inner electrical connector.
24.
Solenoid screw, remove solenoid with wiring harness attached.
25.
Valve body cover bolts and cover.
26.
Auxiliary valve body bolts and valve body. Make sure number one checkball does not fallout, if so, refer to SECTION 7A-1B for proper location.
27.
Oil pump drive rod.
28.
Valve body, cover, spacer plate and gaskets as an assembly. Make sure to remove as an assembly in order to maintain proper location of the five
