Some 1987, 1988 and 1989 Cutlass Cieras with 2.5L (VIN Code R) or 2.8L (VIN Code W) engines with MD9 3-speed transmission and C60/C67 air
conditioners have a potential rub through condition of the A/C pipe by the transmission SHIFT cable. This pipe is part of the A/C hose assembly routed
along the left fender rail from evaporator to accumulator. The vibration and engine roll movement of the transaxle may cause the shift cable to rub
through the A/C pipe, causing a refrigerant leak and an inoperative A/C system.
This condition may be addressed by using the following service parts and procedure to protect the A/C pipe.
