warning light on the instrument panel would be lit. Absence of rear braking at a time when minimum stopping distance is required, could result in a
vehicle crash without prior warning.
To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring on vehicles involved, dealers are to install a wheel cylinder retaining bracket on both rear wheel
cylinders according to instructions in Product Campaign Bulletin 80-C-18.
The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, as amended, provides that each vehicle which is subject to a campaign of this type must be
adequately repaired within a reasonable time after the owner has tendered it for repair. A failure to adequately repair within 60 days after tender of a
vehicle is prima facie evidence of failure to repair within a reasonable time.
If the condition is not adequately repaired within a reasonable time, the owner may be entitled to an identical or reasonably equivalent vehicle at no
charge, or to a refund of the purchase price less a reasonable allowance for depreciation.
To avoid having to provide these burdensome solutions, every effort must be made to promptly schedule an appointment with each owner and to repair
the vehicle as soon as possible. As you will see in reading the attached copy of the letter which is being sent to owners, the owners are being instructed to
contact the nearest Oldsmobile Zone Office if their dealer does not remedy the condition within five days of the agreed service date. If the condition is
not remedied within a reasonable time, they are instructed how to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
If your dealership has vehicles involved in this campaign, you will receive the following: one printout of vehicles in VIN sequence, and one printout of
vehicles in alphabetical sequence by owner name.
These printouts contain the complete Vehicle Identification Number, owner name and address data, and are furnished to the involved dealers with the
campaign bulletin. Owner name and address data furnished will enable dealers to follow up with owners involved in this campaign.
These listings may contain owner names and addresses obtained from State Motor Vehicle Registration records. The use of such motor vehicle
registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing to the
follow-up necessary to complete this campaign.
Owners will be notified of this campaign on their vehicle by Oldsmobile Division. Two types of owner notification letters will be used . . . the traditional
letter, and a "New" letter in a completely revised format. An owner may receive either.

To Oldsmobile Dealers:
Oldsmobile is releasing campaign 85-C-05 involving all 1984 and some early production 1985 Cutlass Cieras equipped with a 3.8L MPFI engine and
440-T4 transaxle. The transaxles on these vehicles were assembled with transaxle oil filler tube and dipstick combinations which give an incorrect oil
level reading.
To correct this condition it will be necessary to replace the transaxle dipstick on vehicles involved with a new correct reading dipstick.
Since a dipstick can be installed very easily and because we do not want to cause owners unnecessary inconvenience, the new dipsticks have been
furnished directly to affected owners of record. Owners may install them personally or they may request dealer assistance for installation.
Dealers have been shipped sufficient quantities of the new dipsticks to complete those vehicles on their printout which do not have an owner of record,
These VINs are identified on the printout with an asterisk. All VINs with an owner of record will have the message "Mailed To Owner" printed on the
printout in place of the owner's address.
