J 28467-A Engine Support Fixture

J 34574 Drive Axle Seal Protector
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Air cleaner if necessary.
3. Install engine support fixture J 28467-A.
4. Raise car and suitably support.
5. Left front wheel and tire.
6. Splash shield.
7. Brake pipe clip at underbody.
8. Pinch bolt at left front knuckle.
9. Pinch bolt at intermediate steering shaft.
CAUTION: Failure to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion steering gear stub shaft can result in damage to the
steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage may cause loss of steering control which could result in an accident and possible
personal injury.
10. Two front transaxle mount to frame nuts.
11. Two rear transaxle mount to frame nuts.
12. Two frame to underbody bolts.
13. Lower car.
14. Lower engine/transaxle approximately 7.62cm (3 inches) by adjusting the support fixture.
15. Raise car and suitably support.
16. Disengage left drive axle from the transaxle and properly support.
NOTICE: Drive axle seal protector J 34754 should be modified and installed on any drive axle prior to service procedures on or near the drive axle.
Failure to observe this can result in seal damage and possible joint failure.
17. Cooler pipe bracket bolts and bracket.
18. Case side cover bolts and nuts surrounding flange at channel plate.
19. Case side cover pan and gaskets.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Case side cover and gaskets.
2. Case side cover bolts and channel plate flange nuts.

Tighten to 14 Nm (10 lb. ft.).
3. Cooler pipe bracket and bolts.
4. Drive axle into transaxle.
5. Lower car.
6. Raise engine transaxle with support fixture.
7. Raise car and suitably support.
8. Intermediate steering shaft to stub shaft.
9. Two (2) frame to underbody bolts.

Be sure to insert ball joint stud into steering knuckle.
^
Tighten to 138 Nm (102 lb. ft.).
10. New pinch bolt at steering knuckle.
^
Tighten to 45 Nm (33 lb. ft.).
11. Pinch bolt at intermediate steering shaft.
^
Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb. ft.).
12. Lower car.
13. Lower engine/transaxle.
^
Be sure the transaxle mounts line up into the frame.
14. Raise car and suitably support.
15. Transaxle mount nuts.
^
Tighten to 45 Nm (33 lb. ft.).
