1.
Raise vehicle and drain crankcase.
2.
Remove engine front mount to cradle attaching nuts.
3.
Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold and rear transaxle mount or converter.
4.
Remove starter motor and flywheel housing cover, then the splash shield, if applicable.
5.
Remove alternator upper mounting bracket and if equipped with power steering, the power steering pump and bracket.
6.
Install a suitable engine lifting device and raise engine.
7.
Remove lower alternator mounting bracket, engine strut and engine support bracket.
8.
Remove oil pan attaching bolts and oil pan.
9.
Clean engine block and oil pan gasket surfaces.
10.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. On 1982-83 engines, apply a 1/8 inch by 1/4 inch bead of RTV sealant at split lines of front and side oil pan gaskets. Also apply a small
amount of sealant in depressions where rear oil pan gasket engages engine block.
b. On 1984-87 engines, apply RTV sealant as shown in Fig. 19. When installing oil pan attaching bolts, the bolts attaching the oil pan to
the front cover should be installed last. These bolts are installed at an angle and the bolt holes will only be aligned after the other oil
pan bolts have been installed.
