Remove hydraulic lifter retainer bolts, then retainer, Fig. 23.

Remove valve lifters, then disassemble, Fig. 24.

If plunger and body appear satisfactory, blow off air to remove all particles of dirt. Install the plunger in the body without other parts and check for
free movement. A simple test is to be sure that the plunger will drop of its own weight in the body, Fig. 24.

Reverse procedure to install. Before installation, prime new or reassembled lifters by working lifter plunger while submerged in kerosene
or diesel fuel. Lifter could be damaged if installed dry when starting engine. When assembling lifters, do not interchange plungers, as they
are specifically fitted to the bodies during manufacture.
