Cutlass Supreme V6-204 3.4L DOHC VIN X SFI (1995)
On vehicles assembled with suspect frame assemblies, install a .625 mm (.025") steel shim of the configuration shown in Figure 2, between the lower
insulator and frame following the procedure below.
Notice:
The wheels of the vehicle must be straight ahead and the steering column in the "LOCK" position before disconnecting the steering column or
intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Failure to do so will cause the SIR coil assembly to become uncentered, which will cause damage to the
coil assembly.
1. Position intermediate shaft seal for access to lower pinch bolt.
2. Remove pinch bolt at steering gear stub shaft and disconnect intermediate shaft from stub shaft.
Caution:
Failure to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion stub shaft can result In damage to the steering gear and/or Intermediate
shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.
3. Raise vehicle and support frame with a jack stand on the rear frame cross member. Refer to the Service Manual, Section 0A, General Information.
4. Remove and discard both rear frame bolts and lower jack stand enough to remove left rear mount from the frame.
5. Remove left rear lower retainer and insulator and form fabricated shim to insulator as shown in Figure 2.
6. Assemble mount to frame utilizing a soap and water solution as a lubricant if required.
7. Raise frame assembly and align/connect steer gear stub shaft to intermediate shaft.
8. Install new frame bolts, P/N 10264358, and torque to 170 Nm (125 lb.ft.).
9. Install/torque intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt to 47 Nm (35 lb.ft.) and position shaft seal.
10. Lower vehicle.
