INSPECTION
Inspect belt teeth and back side of belt for cracks, tears or other damage. Also note any evidence of oil or other fluid contaminates. Replace the belt if
any of these conditions are found (figure 1). Overall belt width below 30 mm (1.20 inch) indicates a side wear condition.
Verify if camshaft belt length is within specification using one of the following methods:
Method A
a. Insert a flat, narrow 0.5 mm (0.02 inch thick), ruler along the tensioner pulley and engage the steps in the tensioner base and note the reading at the
top of the tensioner pulley (figure 2).
b. If reading is 41.1 ± 1.5 mm (1.62 ± 0.06 inch), belt is in acceptable range.
c. If reading is 45.1 ± 1.75 mm (1.77 ± 0.07 inch), belt is to be replaced.
Method B
a. Measure the actuator from the centerline of the trunnion to the end of the rubber boot (figure 3).
b. If the measurement is from 80.5 mm (3.2 inch) to 94 mm (3.7 inch) for a USED belt, the belt is in the ACCEPTABLE range.
c. If the measurement is over 94 mm (3.7 inch) for a USED belt, the belt is to be REPLACED.
