SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT
This special policy covers the condition described above for ten (10) years and unlimited mileage with no deductible, from the date the vehicle was
originally placed in service regardless of ownership. Correction at no charge to the customer will consist of replacing ALL door hinges in involved
vehicles which experience failure of any 8.7mm single-hung door hinge. 11.3mm single-hung hinges will be used to replace the 8.7mm single hung
hinges when a failure occurs.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
Owners will be notified of this special policy by Oldsmobile (see copy of owner letter included with this bulletin).
OWNER REIMBURSEMENT
NOTICE:
When a customer requests reimbursement, dealers are to schedule an appointment to have all door hinges (including those replaced previously) replaced
with the 11.3 mm hinges required for this special policy.
Customer claims for reimbursement on previously paid repairs to correct a fractured door hinge are to be submitted by December 31, 1992 (the time
limitation may be longer depending upon the law In your states). Repairs must have occurred within ten (10) years of the date the vehicle was originally
placed in service (no mileage limitation). Current and prior owners must submit original documentation that reasonably confirms the amount of
unreimbursed repair expense, a description of the repair, the date of the repair, and the person or entity who performed the repair.
Claims for customer reimbursement on previously paid repairs are to be submitted according to the Warranty Claim Information instructions. Use the
"Owner Reimbursement" labor operation (Tl834) and list all owner expenses concerning previous repairs in the net items column of the warranty claim.
Service Procedure
IMPORTANT:
THIS PROCEDURE DIFFERS FROM PRIOR HINGE REPLACEMENT METHODS BECAUSE:
a.
Door remains on the vehicle.
b.
Access to both door hinges is made through the front wheel house area.
C.
Hinges come pre-primed and are NOT to be painted.
IMPORTANT:
IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE DOOR REALIGNMENT, DO NOT REMOVE BOTH DOOR HINGES AT
THE SAME TIME. DO EACH HINGE SEPARATELY AND, IF BROKEN HINGES ARE NOTED DURING VEHICLE WRITE-UP, REPLACE
BROKEN HINGES FIRST.
1.
Obtain hinges for both doors.
2.
Place vehicle on a hoist, and using the proper lift points, raise the vehicle to half up position (until wheel/tire chest high). See Section 0A of
Cutlass Supreme service manual for hoisting instructions and cautions.
