Brake Fluid Pump: Service and Repair

PUMP MOTOR ASSEMBLY AND PRESSURE HOSE

Energy Unit Components

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. With ignition "OFF" or negative battery cable disconnected, apply and release the service brake pedal a minimum of 20 times using approximately

22 N (50 lbs.) force on the pedal. A noticeable change in pedal feel will occur when the accumulator is completely discharged.

2. Electrical connector from pressure switch and electric motor. Remove fluid from reservoir.
3. Hydraulic accumulator & 0-ring.
4. High pressure hose fitting connected to pump.
5. Pressure hose assembly and 0-rings.
6. Wire clip and pull supply hose fitting out of pump body.
7. Bolt attaching pump and motor assembly to main body.
8. Pump motor assembly by sliding off of locating pin.

INSPECT

Insulators and if damaged or deteriorated, replace. Be sure to install new insulators.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Return hose and fitting into pump body. Install wire clip.
2. Pump motor assembly to main body.
3. Bolt attaching pump motor assembly to main body.
4. Pressure hose assembly.
5. Bolt, 0-rings and fitting of pressure hose to pump assembly.
6. Accumulator to body 23 Nm (17 lbs. ft.).
7. Electrical connector to pump motor and pressure switch.
8. Negative battery cable.
