Date: November, 1997

Subject:
Park Brake Pedal Prematurely Releases while Trying to Set Park Brake (Replace Park Brake Pedal Assembly)

Models:
1996 Buick Park Avenue
1996-97 Buick LeSabre

1996-97 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight, LSS
1997 Oldsmobile Regency
1996-97 Pontiac Bonneville

Condition
Some owners may comment that the park brake pedal is not setting correctly or releasing prematurely while trying to set the park brake.

Cause
The park brake pedal "push to release" mechanism may be preventing the pawl from engaging into the sector.

Correction
Replace the park brake pedal assembly with P/N 25672601. The new park brake pedal was phased into production for the 1997 "H" vehicles in
February, 1997. Vehicles built after the following VIN breakpoints will have the new design park brake pedal assembly:

Buick H-Car - 564501
Olds. H-Car - 842500
Pont. H-Car - 250218
