This bulletin contains additional information regarding the DTC P0705 - Trans Range Switch Circuit and DTC P0706 - Transaxle Range Switch
Performance diagnosis in Engine Controls, Section 6E. The PCM in vehicles equipped with U2A or UH8 clusters does not receive transaxle range
information directly from the transaxle range switch. Instead, transaxle range information is received from the instrument panel via the UART serial data
(CKT 800). DTC P0705 or DTC P0706 will set in 1996 and 1997 model vehicles equipped with a U2A or UH8 cluster if the PCM loses UART serial
data communication with the instrument panel. DTC P0705 or DTC P0706 will also set in 1997 vehicles equipped with a UH8 cluster if the instrument
panel detects an incorrect PRNDL input. If DTC P0705 or P0706 is encountered in vehicles equipped with a U2A or UH8 cluster, DO NOT use the
DTC tables in Section 6E. Instead. use the "Instrument Panel System Check" in Section 8A to diagnose the condition.
