Battery - Intermittently Dead

FILE IN SECTION: 8 - Chassis/Body Electrical

BULLETIN NO.: 53-82-07

DATE: August, 1995

SUBJECT:
Intermittent Dead Battery (Repair Trunk Lamp Ground to Body)

MODELS:
1994-95 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight

CONDITION

Some owners may comment on an intermittent dead battery.

CAUSE

The above condition may be due to the rear compartment lamp remaining on. The rear compartment lamp electrical contacts touch sheet metal,
grounding the lamp, causing the lamp to remain on after the rear compartment lid has been closed.

CORRECTION

Repair the trunk lamp ground to body using the following procedure:

1.

From inside rear compartment, remove rear compartment lamp from rear shelf area.

2.

Apply electrical tape to contacts on the lamp to prevent the lamp from grounding to sheet metal.

3.

Install rear compartment lamp to rear shelf area.
