Dear Oldsmobile Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
REASON FOR RECALL
General Motors has determined a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1983 model year Oldsmobile Firenzas. Internal corrosion
of the pulsair check valve assembly can permit exhaust gas to flow upstream to the plastic shut off valve possibly melting the valve. It could then be
possible for a piece of the melted shut off valve to be drawn into the air cleaner, and subsequently into the throttle body where it could lodge against the
throttle plate. If this condition were to occur, the engine may not return to idle upon release of the accelerator pedal. Although the vehicle can still be
stopped with the service brake, loss of accelerator control could result in a vehicle crash without prior warning.
WHAT WE WILL DO
To prevent this condition from occurring, it will be necessary to inspect and, when necessary, replace the following:
A.
Pulsair check valve assembly with an assembly incorporating stainless steel components.
B.
Pulsair shut off valve with a newly designed valve.
This service will be performed for you at no charge.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
Contact your Oldsmobile Dealer to arrange a service date. Instructions have been sent to your Dealer. It is estimated that parts will be available to your
dealer November 17, 1987. The labor time to perform this service is about 35 minutes. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much additional
time will be necessary to process your vehicle.
Your Oldsmobile Dealer is best equipped to obtain parts and provide service to promptly correct your vehicle. However, if you take your vehicle to your
dealer on the agreed service date, and they do not remedy this condition then or within five days, we suggest you contact the nearest Oldsmobile Zone
Office, either in person or by telephone. The Zone Office will assist you and the dealer in gening your vehicle corrected. The locations and telephone
numbers of the Zone offices are listed in the Warranty and Owner Assistance Information booklet.
After contacting your dealer and the Zone Office, if you are still not satisfied that we have done our best to remedy this condition without charge and
within a reasonable time, you may write the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh St., S.W., Washington, D.C.

The enclosed Owner Reply Card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of the card to your dealer will assist in making the necessary correction in the
shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid reply card and returning it to us.
