Brake Master Cylinder: Service and Repair
Master Cylinder Removal and Installation
CAUTION:Brake fluid will damage electrical connections and painted surfaces. Use shop cloths, drip pans and fender covers to prevent brake fluid
from contacting these areas.
Failure Warning Switch
Removing/Installing Master Cylinder Assembly
Removal:
1. Remove pushrod from brake pedal (manual master cylinder).
2. Remove electrical connector at warning switch.
3. Remove tube nuts and hydraulic lines. Plug open pipes to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
4. Remove the two master cylinder attaching nuts.
5. Remove master cylinder.
Installation:
1. Install master cylinder and attaching nuts and torque to 30 - 45 Nm (22 - 30 ft. lb.).
2. Install pushrod to brake pedal (manual master cylinder).
3. Install electrical connector at warning switch.
4. Install hydraulic lines and tube nuts and torque to 14 - 20 Nm (120-180 in. lb.).
5. Fill master cylinder to proper level with clean brake fluid. Proper level is between min. and max. indicator levels in opening on top reservoir.
6. Bleed hydraulic system. Refer to Brakes/Service and Repair/Bleeding Procedure. See: Service and Repair
7. Recheck fluid level.
