Wheel Cylinder: Service and Repair
Drum Brake Components
NOTE: Clean Area around wheel cylinder inlet, pilot and bleeder valve.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Brake drum.
2. Brake shoes and components, as needed for access.
3. Bleeder valve.
4. Brake pipe from wheel cylinder. Plug opening in pipe to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
5. Bolts.
Removing/Installing Wheel Cylinder
6. Wheel cylinder. Clean Old sealant from backing plate where wheel cylinder was removed and Sealant from wheel cylinder (if it is to be
reinstalled).
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Apply Loctite Master Gasket or equivalent to the wheel cylinder shoulder face that contacts backing plate.
2. Position wheel cylinder and hold in place.
3. Bolts.
4. Brake pipe to wheel cylinder.
5. Bleeder valve. Tighten Attaching bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.). Brake pipe fitting (tube nut) to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Bleeder valve to 10 Nm (88
inch lbs.).
