Camshaft: Testing and Inspection
TOOL REQUIRED
J 7872 Magnetic Base Indicator Set
1. Measure the camshaft journals with a micrometer. If journals are not within specifications, replace the camshaft.
2. Measure camshaft runout using Magnetic Base Indicator Set.
a. Mount the camshaft in V-blocks between centers.
b. Use the Magnetic Base Indicator Set in order to check the intermediate camshaft journal.
3. If runout exceeds specifications, camshaft is excessively bent and should be replaced.
