Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair

TOOL REQUIRED

J 29800 Cut-Off Tool

NOTE:  The front pipe and catalytic converter is service as an assembly. They are not serviced separately.

REMOVAL 

1. Oxygen sensor. See Powertrain Management.
2. Support Converter.
3. Cut intermediate exhaust pipes at the converter using Cut-Off Tool. Cut as close to welds as tool will permit.

4. Front pipe bolts at exhaust manifold.

5. Converter.
6. Remaining portions of the converter inlet/outlet from the intermediate pipe/resonator assembly.

INSTALLATION 

1. Converter. Position intermediate pipe/resonator assembly for proper clearance to underbody during converter installation.
2. (2) "U" bolt type clamps. Tighten nut to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
3. Front pipe attaching bolts. Tighten bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
4. Oxygen sensor. See Powertrain Management.
