Drive Belt: Component Tests and General Diagnostics

When checking the accessory drive belt for wear, the condition of the belt ribs if best judged as the belt is bent back over the water pump pulley. Belt
stretch, as indicated by the belt tensioner, also affects the belt replacement decision. The drive belt tensioner has the ability to control belt tension over a
fairly broad range of belt lengths. However, there are limits to the tensioner's ability to compensate for varying lengths of belts. With the tensioner
outside of its operating range poor tension control and/or damage to the tensioner can result.
