Fluid - A/T: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Raise vehicle and suitably support. 
2. Place drain pan under transaxle oil pan.
3. Oil pan bolts from the front and sides only.
4. Loosen rear oil pan bolts about 4 turns.

NOTICE:  Do not damage the transaxle case or oil pan sealing surfaces.

5. Lightly tap on pan with rubber mallet, or pry to allow fluid to drain.

Inspect fluid color

6. Remaining oil pan bolts, oil pan and gasket.
7. Oil filter, using long screwdriver to pry filter neck out of seal.
8. Check oil filter seal for damage or wear. As needed, remove seal using tools J 6215-1B and J 23129.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Coat new seal with a small amount of TRANSJEL(tm) J 36580 or petroleum jelly.
2. New seal, as needed.
3. New filter into case.
4. Oil pan and gasket. Oil pan gasket may be re-used, unless sealing ribs are damaged. If damaged, use new gasket.
5. Oil pan bolts.

Tighten bolts to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).

6. Lower vehicle.
7. Fill transaxle to proper level with DEXRON III fluid.
8. Check "Cold" fluid level reading for initial fill. Do not overfill.
9. Check oil pan gasket for leaks.
