Spark Plug: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

CAUTION: It is important that technicians wash their hands after handling coated spark plugs and before smoking. The coating itself is a
non-hazardous material and incidental contact will not cause any adverse effects. However, exposure to polymer vapors - the result of
contamination of tobacco products and the subsequent burning of the polymer may result in flu-like symptoms and should be avoided.

IMPORTANT:  Do not remove spark plugs when engine is warm. Clean dirt and debris from spark plug recess area.
    

1. Make sure ignition key is "OFF."
2. Spark plug wires from plugs.

Note wire position of wires before removing.

Twist the boot 1/2 turn while removing.

3. Spark plugs from engine.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Spark plugs.

Tighten Spark plugs to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).

IMPORTANT:  On the 3800 engine, aluminum heat shields are used over the spark plug boots on cylinders which are close to exhaust tubing. Care
should be taken to ensure these heat shields are fully seated.

2. Plug wires to proper spark plugs, use position reference noted during removal procedure.
