Rear Compartment Lid - Does Not Stay Open

FILE IN SECTION: 10 - Body

BULLETIN NO.: 53-15-11

DATE: July, 1995

SUBJECT:
Rear Compartment Lid Does Not Stay Open (Adjust Torque Rods)

MODELS:
1994-95 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight
with Rear Compartment Lid Torque Rod System

CONDITION

Some owners may comment that the rear compartment lid may drift down when the vehicle is parked on an incline or if a strong wind catches the lid.

CAUSE

The initial setting of the rear compartment lid torque rods does not provide sufficient tension to hold the rear compartment lid in the open position.

CORRECTION

Adjust rear compartment lid torque rods using torque rod adjustment tool, J 41358-1, to increase torque rod output. Refer to Figure 1.
