Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
Models Less SIR System
STANDARD & TILT WHEEL
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
On models with control pad assembly, pry out control pad using a thin bladed tool.
3.
On models less control pad assembly, remove two steering wheel pad retaining screws.
4.
On all models, disconnect horn wire from cam tower.
5.
On models with control pad assembly, pry rocker button and push button from control pad.
6.
On all models, remove steering wheel nut retainer.
7.
Remove steering wheel retaining nut.
8.
Using a suitable puller, remove steering wheel.
9.
Reverse procedure to install.
TELESCOPING WHEEL
Except Cadillac
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove two steering wheel pad retaining screws.
3.
Disconnect horn wire from steering wheel pad.
4.
Remove steering shaft lock knob bolt positioning screws, then the lock knob bolt from steering shaft.
5.
Remove steering wheel nut retainer and the steering wheel nut. Using a suitable puller, remove steering wheel.
6.
Reverse procedure to install.
Cadillac
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove two steering wheel pad retaining screws.
3.
Disconnect horn wire from steering wheel pad.
4.
Remove three screws from telescoping adjusting lever.
5.
Remove steering shaft lock knob from steering shaft.
6.
Remove steering wheel nut.
7.
Using a suitable puller, remove steering wheel.
8.
Reverse procedure to install.
