Condition
General Motors has determined that some 1986 Oldsmobile Toronados were assembled with a console front compartment door that may not remain
closed during load forces that might be experienced in a vehicle crash. Therefore, these vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
Standard 201 "Occupant Protection in Interior Impacts.."
VEHICLES INVOLVED
Involved are certain 1986 Oldsmobile Toronados equipped with a console front compartment door within the following VIN breakpoints:
Up To
Plant
Beginning
And Including
Hamtramck (U)
Start of Production
End of Production
DEALER ACTION
To correct this condition on vehicles involved, three (3) small foam pads are to be installed on the console compartment door opening as described in the
Service Procedure section of this bulletin.
Since the foam pads can be installed very easily and because we do not want to cause owners unnecessary inconvenience, three (3) foam pads are being
furnished directly to affected owners of record. Owners may install the pads personally or they may request dealer assistance for installation.
If requested, dealers are to perform this recall campaign on affected vehicles at no charge to the owner regardless of time, mileage, or ownership. In
addition, dealers are to correct all affected vehicles in dealer new and used car inventory prior to their sale.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your used car inventory in the future, you should take the steps necessary to be sure the
campaign correction has been made before reselling the vehicle.
Service Procedure

1.
Open console front compartment door and clean area where foam pads are to be installed by wiping with a clean cloth. Refer to Figure 1.
2.
Remove backing from foam pads to expose adhesive surface and install pads in locations shown in Figure 1.
3.
Close console compartment door.
4.
Install a Campaign Identification label. Each vehicle modified in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Service Procedure will require a
