III. HARSH 3-2 SHIFT CONDITION ON 1986 MODELS OTHER THAN 3.0L 6BHH MODEL, H SERIES, OR HIGH ALTITUDE USE
An incorrect load 3-2 control spring may cause a harsh 3-2 shift at 45 mph and below. Contact Oldsmobile TSCS for corrective information.
IV. HARSH 3-2 SHIFT MANEUVER (17 to 20 MPH AT ANY ALTITUDE) - A, C, H, 1986 E SERIES
Service Action:
At start of production (SOP) 1987, an orifice pipe has been added between the 1-2 servo release cover plate and the 3-2 coastdown valve to allow a
smoother second gear apply. The four new parts installed as a set will service certain past model transaxles and may correct a harsh 3-2 shift maneuver at
17 to 20 mph.
If 3-2 shift harshness exists above 20 mph, replacing these parts will not be an effective correction. 3-2 shift harshness above 20 mph is to be corrected
by 3-2 control spring replacement as described in Section I, II, or III of this bulletin.
