Heater Core: Service and Repair

TORONADO

1.

 Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.

2.

 Remove left and right hush panels and under dash courtesy lamps.

3.

 Remove lower steering column cover, insulator at toe plate, and the lower steering column mounting screws.

4.

 Remove nuts securing upper steering column bracket to instrument panel, then carefully lower column. Disconnect shift indicator cable and
electrical connectors, as needed, prior to lowering column. Do not force column down as it may be damaged.

5.

 Remove windshield defroster grille and both deflector housings.

6.

 Remove 5 screws securing top of instrument panel and 2 bolts securing bottom of instrument panel.

7.

 Disconnect instrument panel bulkhead connector and pull instrument panel rearward.

8.

 Remove aspirator duct.

9.

 Disconnect fuel filler door and deck lid release electrical connectors and the antenna lead.

10.

 Disconnect fuse panel, then remove instrument panel from vehicle.

11.

 Disconnect heater hoses from heater core.

12.

 Remove A/C programmer screws, disconnect electrical and vacuum connectors and remove programmer.

13.

 Remove A/C power module retaining screws, disconnect electrical connectors and remove module.

14.

 Remove heater core cover and retaining strap.

15.

 Remove retaining screws and the heater core.

16.

 Reverse procedure to install.
