Oil Level Gauge - Inoperative

SUBJECT:
HEAT PROTECTOR SHIELD FOR OIL LEVEL/OIL TEMPERATURE AND SPEED SENSOR HARNESS

MODELS:
ALL 405 VEHICLES

COMPLAINT:
Inoperative or non-functioning oil level gauge

PART REQUIRED:
Protector sleeve, P.N. 6538.30

PROCEDURE:

-

Remove the following:

-

connector from oil level switch located under exhaust manifold

-

connector from oil temperature switch located on the rear of the oil pan (J4 only)

-

cruise control speed sensor connector if it is fitted at the transaxle

-

the wire harness hold-down strap from the bracket on the rear of the engine block in area of the speedometer cable

-

The wiring harness can now be removed from the side and rear of engine

-

Unwrap at least 75-100 mm (3-4") of tape from the harness to separate lambda harness from the main harness

-

Inspect lambda and/or oil level sensor wiring for damage, and repair if necessary

-

Cut two access holes in the protector sleeve (see drawing) for the oil temperature and speed sensor harness if sensor is fitted to transaxle

-

Slide the heat protector sleeve over the oil temperature, oil level, and speed sensor harness

-

Connect harness to oil temperature switch and speed sensor

-

Fit open end of protector over rubber boot and connector of oil level harness and connect harness to switch

-

Use a wire tie to retain protector around oil level switch

-

Secure harness with existing wire tie

-

Ensure the lambda sensor harness is properly routed as outlined in Service Bulletin No. 402, Class 1

WARRANTY INFORMATION:

This repair will be accepted when performed within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period of three (3) years and/or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs
first.
