Heater Core: Service and Repair

To remove heater core, it is necessary to remove the dashboard.

1.

Drain pressure in cooling system, then clamp off heater inlet and outlet hoses and disconnect air intake pipe.

2.

Remove fuse panel connectors and relay from under steering column.

3.

Disconnect righthand and lefthand side dashboard harness connectors, then ground connector on righthand kick panel.

4.

Remove dashboard reinforcement bolt and three bolts securing dashboard to plenum chamber.

5.

Remove dashboard mounting bolts and one bolt behind heater/air conditioner control.

6.

Remove strut secured at lower part of dashboard and at gear shift support.

7.

Move to one side the speedometer cable, instrument cluster harness and heater/air conditioner control panel.

8.

Remove blower air inlet cover to have access to heater mounting bolts, then remove bolt retaining heater/air conditioner assembly.

9.

Remove bolts retaining heater pipe coupling, then the two air ducts.

10.

Place a container below heater pipe coupling, then remove screw retaining heater/air conditioner to floor.

11.

Remove heater/air conditioner blower assembly, then two heater core retaining bolts and detach core assembly.

12.

Reverse procedure to install, using new O-rings between pipe couplings and heater core.
