Engine - Stalls When Moving Transmission Selector

SUBJECT:
ENGINE STALLS WHEN MOVING AUTO TRANS SELECTOR AT IDLE
MODELS:
405 DL AND S VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
COMPLAINT:
We have experienced a few cases indicating that engine may stall intermittently at idle when gearshift is moved from park to reverse, or neutral to drive,
or neutral to reverse.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 Diode type "Cartier" relay, P/N 6555.48
FIELD FIX:
-
Locate the park/neutral relay in the relay box on right hand side of engine compartment. Relay with wires 32A, 32B, 42, 45B.
Disconnect socket.

Reverse the socket wiring between pins 1 and 2.
To release the double lock terminal from the socket:

Push wire and terminal all the way up into socket.

Insert a small flat blade screwdriver, in center of terminal and pull wire down. Hold in this position, pull screwdriver out.

Insert screwdriver between rolled over side of terminal and side of socket; pull down on wire to release from socket.

Insert wires 32A and 32B instead of 45B into Pin 1

Insert wire 45B instead of 32A and 32B into Pin 2.

Install new park/neutral diode type relay, P/N 6555.48.
