Clutch Pedal - Height Adjustment Revised
BULLETIN NO. 375
DATE:
April, 1990
SUBJECT:
REVISED CLUTCH PEDAL HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
MODELS:
ALL 405 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION
THIS BULLETIN SUPERCEDES SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 348 DATED JUNE, 1989
Unlike the 505, 405 vehicles utilize a cable-actuated clutch. The throw-out bearing is designed to be constant contact with the clutch pressure plate (no
free play at the clutch fork arm). Since the clutch pedal has no positive stop at the top of its travel, the cable adjustment should be used to set clutch pedal
free height and length of travel only. In fact, it is normal for the clutch to be as much as in inch higher than the brake pedal, and no attempt should be
made to adjust the clutch for this condition.
To determine proper clutch pedal travel adjustment proceed as follows:
1.
Measure distance from top of clutch pedal in its fully relaxed position to the back of the steering wheel, "L1" in figure below
2.
Fully depress clutch pedal and re-measure distance to the back of the steering wheel. - "L2" in figure below
3.
Subtract measurement, "L1" from "L2" to obtain measurement "X"
X = 145 +/- 5 mm
Ex:
L2 L1 715 mm - 570 mm = 145 mm
If incorrect, adjust the cable length at the inner cable anchoring point on the transmission, located under the battery tray.
NOTE:
After installing a new cable, a minimum of forty (40) applications of the clutch pedal must be made before checking the final
adjustment.
