TACHYMETRIC RELAY - PARTS SUPERCESSION
THIS BULLETIN SUPERCEDES BULLETIN NO. 310 DATED NOVEMBER, 1988 FOR THE REVISED PART NUMBER OF FLAG TERMINAL
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
1980 TO 1985 505 WITH XN6 ENGINE
PARTS NEEDED:
1 - P/N 1452.05 - new tachymetric relay 1 - P/N 6540.28 - flag terminal 1 - P/N 0065.T5 - adapter harness
PROBLEM:
-
Tachymetric relay P/N 6555.05 has been superceded by P/N 1452.05 (for 505 XN6 1986/87).

In order to install the new relay, it, is necessary to use an adapter harness to fit the old connector and supply power in the cranking mode.
PROCEDURE:
-
Remove lower steering column shell
-
Remove lower left dash panel
-
Disconnect and remove the old relay (located on left side of steering column toward the bottom)

Install the new relay in its place
-
Plug the adapter harness male connector into the vehicle harness tachymetric relay female connector

Disconnect wire connector from two-tone chime located on the right hand side of steering column
-
Remove wire #45 from the connector and cut it off
-
Snake the long wire coming from the new relay connector, terminal #1, next to existing wiring harness and through existing wire tires to ensure
there is no interference with the steering column

Strip the end of this wire and wire #45
-
Crimp both wires together using a new P/N 6540.28 terminal, making a double crimp with the Proner tool (P/N 9788.16) using slot no. 2.

Push new terminal back into connector until it clicks into position

Reconnect wire connector to two-tone chime and test by starting the engine
-
Reinstall panels in reverse order of removal
