Electric Antenna - Not Retracting Fully/Bent
BULLETIN NO. 214 (
15)
DATE:
January, 1987 (45)
SUBJECT:
ELECTRIC ANTENNA MAINTENANCE/DIAGNOSIS
COMPLAINT
The electric antenna may not retract fully at all times. As a result, the mast may become bent during car washes, etc.
REASON
Dirt accumulates on the antenna mast and the dirt never gets cleaned off, as the antenna is usually retracted during car washes.
MAINTENANCE
An alcohol saturated cloth (see below) is placed in the glove box of each vehicle on which the radio is standard equipment. Slide it over the antenna and
wipe it up and down to remove the dirt.
The antenna can also be cleaned by saturating a cloth with rubbing alcohol (isopropanol, i.e. isopropyl alcohol).
It is recommended that this be done at least monthly.
DIAGNOSIS OF INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
Cycle the antenna 5 times. Usually any intermittent problem will occur at least once within 5 cycles.
IMPORTANT:
Replacement masts are available separately. Thirty percent of the antenna assembly replacements received by Warranty Testing have
bent masts only and are rejected.
