Power Antenna - Failures Traced to Water Leaks
BULLETIN NO. 239 (
15)
DATE:
May, 1987 (49)
SUBJECT:
POWER ANTENNA FAILURES
MODEL:
505 SEDANS EQUIPPED WITH HIRSCHMANN AUTA 6000EL ANTENNA
REASON
Some power antenna failures have been traced to water leaking through the antenna-to-quarter panel grommet, traveling down the antenna coaxial lead,
dripping onto the 12 volt connector, and ultimately collecting on the antenna printed circuit. Corrosion of the printed circuit results, with subsequent
electrical failure or malfunction.
REPAIR ON 505 SEDANS FROM V.I.N. 0381689
TO PREVENT REOCCURRENCE OF POWER ANTENNA FAILURES DURING ANTENNA REPLACEMENT OR AS A PREVENTIVE
MEASURE DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE SERVICE:
Rotate the antenna mast cover 90~ clockwise as shown below. Any future slight water leakage that might occur will be directed away from the printed
circuit.
-
Loosen screw A.
-
Rotate mast cover by hand (or with pliers) 90~ as shown. If necessary loosen and remove ground strap to enable rotation of mast cover.
-
Retighten screw A, and ground strap if it has been removed.
REPAIR ON 505 SEDANS UP TO V.I.N. 0381688
-
Remove antenna and file or grind down spacer locating notch B.
-
Reinstall antenna, ensure that spacer is correctly centered in relation to fender contour.
