SUBJECT:
OIL LEAK AT BASE OF OIL FILLER TUBE ON VALVE COVER
MODELS:
N9T AND N9TE EQUIPPED 505 SEDANS AND STATION WAGONS
COMPLAINT:
Rear of engine and engine compartment coated with oil and oil film with dust adhering to it.
CAUSE:
Some 505 turbo sedans and wagons may have an oil leak at the joint where the oil filler tube meets the valve cover, as shown
below:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Note:
Do not remove valve cover from engine to perform this repair.

Thoroughly clean the outside of the valve cover at the base of the filler tube using a lint-free rag and an oil diluting solvent.

Clean the inside base of the tube in the same manner.

Use compressed air to remove any solvent left in the joint and to dry the area.

When area is perfectly clean and dry apply a narrow bead of epoxy adhesive and hardener mixture ("3M Auto-Pak Fast Cure", part no.
051135-03606, or similar product) along the joint, both on the outside and on the inside of the filler tube, making sure the border area is
completely covered.

Let the adhesive cure for at least an hour (more if below room temperature).

Ensure that the distributor, coil, ignition module, etc. are covered.

Clean the oil film from the engine and engine compartment with cleaner, or compressed air/solvent machine.

Check engine oil level, refill if necessary.
