A/C - Blower Motor Goes to High Speed Key Off

SUBJECT:

HEATER AND A/C BLOWER MOMENTARILY GOES TO HIGH SPEED WHEN IGNITION IS TURNED OFF. 1986 & 87 MODEL
YEAR VEHICLES.

COMPLAINT:

The heater and A/C blower fan motor may momentarily go to high speed as the ignition key is turned from "Run" to "Off" position of
the ignition switch. If customers find this condition objectionable, perform the wiring modification indicated below.

PART REQUIRED:

1 Terminal P.N. 6541.22

SPECIAL TOOL REQUIRED: "Proner" crimping pliers P.N. 9788.16

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

-

Disconnect Battery.

-

Remove fuse box cover and upper housing (2 Phillips head screws)

-

Remove fuse board from upper housing.

-

Locate and disconnect brown 6 pin connector (M705E)

-

Open connector housing (M705E) and remove wires 27 at pin 1 and 27A at pin 3.

-

Cut the female terminal from wires 27 and 27A and strip approximately 3 mm (1/8") of insulation off each wire.

Insert stripped wires 27 and 27A into new terminal P.N 6541.22 and firmly close crimping pliers (slot 4 of "Proner" crimping pliers)

Crimp insulation (slot 6 of "Proner" crimping pliers)

-

Test crimp by applying a pull on new terminal.

-

Insert new terminal with wires 27 and 27A into Pin 1 of 6 pin connector M705E. Lock connector cover housing and reconnect to fuse board.

-

Re-install fuse board, upper housing and cover.

-

Re-connect battery and reset clock.

PRODUCTION MODIFICATION:

A similar wiring modification has been applied in production on all 1987 model year vehicles manufactured as of October 1986. The rheostat wire 33B
is now crimped with wire 27A at heater and A/C blower fan motor connector (power supply from fuse F10 instead of F3).

Note:

For accessibility reason, the suggested repair procedure is performed at the fuse box.
