Fuel Tank: Service and Repair

Fuel Tank Removal and Installation

1. Disconnect the battery ground terminal.

2. Remove the access plate from inside the luggage compartment and disconnect the electrical leads from the fuel gauge sending unit and in-tank pump
(if equipped).

3. From under the car disconnect the main fuel pipe union, the filler neck and any vent pipes that may be fitted to the fuel tank.

4. Support the tank, then undo and remove the bolts securing the tank to the underbody.

5. Carefully lower the tank, releasing any connections that may have been inaccessible with the tank installed.

6. Refitting is the reverse sequence to removal. It will be necessary to prime the fuel system after the tank has been refitted.
