Intermittent Loss of Engine Power During Slow Speed Deceleration

NOTE:
THIS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 3.0L ENGINES.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Intermittent loss of power during slow speed deceleration or long crank times when cold.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the engine slows or operates rough after deceleration, or requires long crank times when cold, it may be caused by residue which has accumulated
between the throttle blade and the throttle body bore. This residue will restrict air flow at closed throttle. Removing the residue will return the minimum
air flow speed to proper specifications.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This repair involves verifying minimum air flow, and/or removing the throttle body, and cleaning the throttle body bore and throttle blade.

1.

Perform the minimum air flow test as outlined in the Powertrain Diagnostic Procedure Manual. Be sure to use Tool C-5004.

2.

If the minimum air flow RPM is below the acceptable range as specified in the appropriate service manual or diagnostic manual, remove the 
throttle body.

3.

While holding the throttle body open, spray the throttle bore with Mopar Parts Cleaner P/N 4318037. Spray the entire throttle body bore and the
manifold side of the throttle blade. It is important to use only Mopar Parts Cleaner. Do not submerse the throttle body in solvents, gasoline, or
other cleaning fluids.

CAUTION:
USE THIS CLEANER ONLY IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA. DO NOT LET THE CLEANER COME IN CONTACT WITH SKIN.
BUTYL OR RUBBER GLOVES ARE RECOMMENDED. WASH THOROUGHLY AFTER USE. AVOID EYE CONTACT. AVOID
INGESTING.

Use a small (1" X 1") piece of the scuff pad (Scotch Brite) to clean the throttle body bore and the throttle blade. While holding the throttle open,
clean both the top and bottom of the throttle body bore. Also clean the manifold side and edges of the throttle blade.

NOTE:
IT IS IMPORTANT THIS CLEANING OPERATION BE PERFORMED THOROUGHLY AND COMPLETELY. THE EDGE OF THE
